Ice Safety on Lake Ripley
No Ice is Safe Ice
Ice conditions are unpredictable and can change quickly on Wisconsin's lakes and rivers! And with the forecast predicting temperatures to rise above freezing this week, it is imperative that you are prepared. We know you want to get out on Lake Ripley to start your ice fishing season, but remember that no ice is 100% safe.
A few safety reminders before heading out:
- Check ice conditions beforehand
- Dress warmly in layers
- Take safety gear with you (lifejacket, ice picks and rope)
- Don't go alone! Take a cell phone. Let someone know where you will be and when you plan to return
Here is a brochure from the DNR with additional information about being safe on ice: https://widnr.widen.net/.../bkgw.../icesafetybrochure_le_620
